Iconic designer Vicky Tiel shares what she learned in a life of fashion
Most people outside the elite echelons of the fashion world don't know of Vicky Tiel. The New York Times recently called her "the greatest designer you never heard of," and it's a sentiment echoed by many. Nevertheless, the success of her 40-year-old label, which still produces $28,000 custom-made dresses, is undeniable. And as if to say, "It ain't over yet," Tiel decided to reaffirm her legendary status with a new book that boasts a wonderfully provocative title, "It's All About the Dress: What I Learned in 40 Years About Men, Women, Sex and Fashion" ($26.99, St. Martin's Press). It's a charming read that is a bit like a long, meandering conversation with Tiel. She drifts from stories about nearly falling out of a helicopter to stories about some of her famous sex partners (she drops names like Warren Beatty and Paul Newman), and she even gives up Sophia Loren's secret pasta recipe. |
