'Warrior' Star Joel Edgerton on the Joys of Beating Up Tom Hardy
The new movie “Warrior” is ridiculous. What I mean is, “Warrior” is that rare combination of feel-good movie fused with that down-and-dirty blood sport, MMA fighting, that one doesn’t find all that often in film – and pulls it off with an incredible level of beauty and grace. Last night, at the movie’s premiere in Los Angeles, stars Joel Edgerton and Tom Hardy decided to 86 the boxing briefs for more formal attire – both were in suits — with co-star Jennifer Morrison in vintage…but not just any vintage — a satin gown by Jacques Fath – who designed gowns for Ava Gardner, Greta Garbo and that ultimate fashion plate, Audrey Hepburn. An uber-bulked-up Hardy (soon to be seen as the villain in Christopher Nolan’s latest “Batman”) plays a former Marine/fighter/latchkey kid with dad issues (Nick Nolte in a superb, heart-wrenching turn) who ends up going head-to-head with bro Joel Edgerton (who came by Los Angeles for a brief visit before he takes on the role of Tom Buchanan in Baz Luhrman’s “Great Gatsby) in mixed martial arts. Blood sport does not even begin to describe the gory details. |
